City-wide dialogue on municipal voting reform releases fourteen ideas to consider.
April 21, 2010
Better Ballots, a non-partisan dialogue exploring options that could make Toronto's elections more relevant, effective, fair, and participatory, has released a document outlining fourteen concrete proposals for voting reform in our city.
Options include term limits, a lower voting age, ranked ballots, multi-member wards, extended voting rights, borough councils, municipal parties, online voting, finance reforms, and more.
Each option is explained with a brief description, examples of where these ideas are already being used, and a list of possible benefits and possible concerns.
Could these options work in Toronto? Better Ballots is asking residents what they think through city-wide Town Hall events on April 26 or 27, 2010.
