Providing summer jobs for youth

Carmen is the Director of Trusteed and Special projects at Tropicana Community Services, with responsibility for overseeing the “Summer Jobs for Youth” program, the food drive and providing mentorship and support to youth and community groups trusteed by the agency.

During her time at Tropicana, she has developed the systems, procedures, and documents still used province wide for the “Summer Jobs for Youth” program, and has been responsible for training staff from other cities in implementing their programs. Since 2006, Carmen has been successful in surpassing the targets set for the program every year.

Carmen will use her Vital People grant to expand her project management and human resource management abilities. She will enrol in the Comprehensive Project Management workshop and Fundamentals of Human Resources Management courses conducted by the Canadian Management Centre.

Carmen’s Vital People grant has been generously supported by the Griggs Family Foundation and the Vital Toronto Fund at the Toronto Community Foundation.
