Getting Around

Why it matters
“A healthy transportation system provides options and is safe and accessible for all road users. City streets need to function both as transportation routes and vibrant destinations.

  Getting Around

Where we're at
  • Chronic underinvestment in transportation has been identified as the Toronto Region’s greatest threat to global competitiveness.
  • The annual expenditure on public transit averages $338 per capita in the Toronto Region, placing it 15th of 21 metros behind Montreal ($339), Calgary ($381), New York ($703), and London ($1,113).
  • The Toronto Region trails 20 other metros with an average commute time of 80 minutes. Over a 40-year career, that adds up to more than 1.5 years just getting to and from work..

Toronto Cyclists Union   Toronto Cyclists Union
The Toronto Cyclists Union is a member-based organization working to create a city where anyone can ride a bike safely and enjoyably, regardless of age, ability or location.  They envision a transportation system where an 80-year-old man in Etobicoke can bike with his grandchild to the park, where a mother in Parkdale with three kids can run errands, get to work, and buy groceries all by bicycle, where a morning commute is no longer gridlock and frustration, but a swift and safe bike ride from St. Clair to Bay Street.
